VE Day 75 Years – 8th May 2020

Hi All

On Friday 8 May 2020 Britain will be commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE Day when the guns fell silent at the end of war in Europe.

The Coronavirus emergency and consequent Government guidance means that VE Day 75 community celebrations, due to take place on the bank holiday weekend of 8th – 10th May, have been cancelled or postponed.

The wonderfully named Bruno Peek LVO OBE OPR, who is the official “Pageantmaster” for VE Day 75 celebrations has the following request…

Please will everyone undertake the ‘Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’ at 3pm on the 8th May, from the safety of their own home by standing up and raising a glass to following ‘Toast’ – “To those who gave so much, we thank you,” using this unique opportunity to pay tribute to the many millions at home and abroad that gave so much to ensure we all enjoy and share the freedom we have today.

The BBC have also launched “The Great British Bunting” initiative. A way for us to celebrate and remember in the safety of our own homes.

So mark the occasion, share your pride in our country and honour the men and women of WW2!
