18/06/16 Garden Open Day a Great Success!

Thanks to everyone who attended Laleham Gardens Open Day this Saturday!

Like anxious puppies, we followed the weather on our BBC app all week as it drifted between dry and dirty and wet and dirty… Dry and dirty it turned out to be for the main part, although a few poor souls were caught on the bend of the Ashford Road for an early shower. Sorry about that.

Still, garden lovers from as far away as Ashford, Shepperton and Devon (visiting people in Ashford), attended and - from the Giraffes at the far end of the Ashford Road to the pig in a jolly scarf on Blacksmiths Lane - all reports were good.

LRA committee members unveiled their summer t-shirts designed by pupils at Laleham Upper School and you can see a picture on our web site and in next month’s Shepperton Matters.

We had about 150 visitors and raised £640.00 in all. A terrific result given the weather.

Thanks especially to those who opened their gardens, manned the pond and helped at the Heritage Centre. We couldn’t do it without you, obviously.

So my wish for the future is for even MORE contributors and even MORE people willing to open their gardens! Not to make the event bigger, (it’s already a full day), but to allow those who do open to rotate to, perhaps, every other year and take a break in between. I hope you will all keep this in mind when I call for volunteers next spring!

(Thanks also) to the council got the hanging baskets up for us at the last minute. So YAY! Katie Frame Spelthorne Streetscene
