03/06/16 LRA Adopt New Constitution at June 3rd AGM

The Laleham Society started some-time in the 1940's - running charitable and sociable events and getting involved in community issues. At some point, the society - now the LRA - was registered as a charity and at that point a written constitution became a legal requirement.

Our constitution has to be approved by the Charities Commission and it should represent a fair picture of the activities of the group.

The constitution inherited by the current committee was last amended in 1987 so basically it hasn’t been touched for 30 years.

We pulled it out of a dusty drawer a couple of years ago, more out of interest than anything, and immediately noticed some gaping holes… There was no provision for some of the activities which have been undertaken by the LRA for many years, such as running social events and making gifts to local groups and charities.

So over the following year we have been amending and rewriting every segment until the committee all agree that a fair representation of our activities and the way we want to progress in the future has been achieved.
